UPDATE: After dying and Zed disappearing, John's barriers about what might be the right (or SMART) thing to do have started to come down. Now that she's back, he's more than willing to push those mental boundaries if it means giving them both something a bit normal to hang onto...
It's a... complicated relationship. John certainly loves (or certainly cares deeply about) her, but crossing that last threshold that keeps their relationship "professional" seems to be hard for him. He trusts her more than he thinks he should. After all, she's one of the few that still thinks it's a good idea to stay at his side.

UPDATE: John has promised to get Raylan home back to his woman in the waiting and little girl on the way. After his resurrection, Raylan is the only person in Mathias that knows about Newcastle outside of Zed. John has even started referring to Raylan as "his best mate" inside his own head.
The man he trusts the most in Mathias. John respects the man's choice for the law, and might even admire him a bit for it. They share a few things in common through their lives, and at least Raylan will entertain John's knowledge of magic and the metaphysical aspects of the universe. He h as even asked Raylan to keep an eye on Zed if anything should happen to him.

UPDATE: John Henry is still a man that John trusts. Although he's become a bit more irate with him now that John Henry has found a way to pull out those feelings he has about Zed. Still, it's nice to have someone who doesn't second guess magic.
Right after Raylan comes John Henry, the other cowboy that John trusts. Even with a few jabs at the man's age and apparent immortality? John's not much of a fan of how he seems to open up around him. That being said, John Henry is one of the first men he'd go to in Mathias if he needed help with something.

UPDATE: Learning that Five is a 58 year old man trapped in a 13 year old body has changed John's view on him. He still values his input and respects him, but now there's a bit of a kindred spirit feeling to it. Even if John isn't nearly as old as Five, he feels like he can relate.
Not much is known about Five, but, John can appreciate an older man who knows how shitty the world really is. There is a respect for how Five sees things, making him one of the few John would seek input on when it comes to Mathias.

UPDATE: While still only knowing what John would consider the basics of their situation, Klaus has become an ally in Mathias. Although, John wouldn't say he fully trusted the man until he brought Zed back home on Day 21. The fact the psychic would care for a woman he didn't know left an impression.
John met Klaus on the damned beach of Mathias. He has a softer spot for him, given he's Five's brother, and a psychic in the same realm as Zed.

UPDATE: After crossing paths with him several times, John has taking a liking to the man. However, he didn't really trust him as a partner in the Mystery of Mathias until their encounter against the Stranger. John feels a bit in his debt for Coulson caring for his injuries - and he's not sure he likes that.
They've only crossed paths a few times, but, John gets the sense that Coulson knows a bit more about the world than he'd let on. Although he still comes off as a bit of an office type.

A young supernatural hunter, John sees someone who needs to be on a better path then he is. He appreciates having someone else who is trained in some of the knowledge he is, but, ultimately hopes to guide her on a path that won't lead her to damnation. She deserves better... and no one else should be on his road with him.

Ellie knows how to handle herself, and John appreciates the woman not needing to have her hand held. He just wishes that her mind would be a bit more open to the idea of magic and the metaphysical side of the universe.
