Yeah, it is. It's like I can't stop looking at it. I want to look away, but I can't. Now that I know it's there, I can't pretend I don't see it. [ He notices the way she looks down, and how she shakes her head. ]

For what it's worth, I don't want to contribute to that problem. Like I said, I can't look away knowing what's there, so... I guess I don't have much of a choice. I have to know more about how things are, and pretending I can't see the reality of it is stupid. Whether I can handle it or not is something I'm still figuring out.

[ He really hates digging up these old memories, but if he forgets about them, then he forgets about what set him on this path in the first place. Somehow, that feels like something he shouldn't forget. ]

No, I didn't know what happened, but diving into the lake was rash, even for me. I didn't stop to think. I just acted, and... [ He shakes his head. ]

What happened next... When I dove in, I think I blacked out, and when I woke up again, I was back in the car we rented. But I was by myself, and I couldn't remember how I got there, or how I managed to crash the car and land it on the edge of a cliff. I couldn't remember much of anything, except that something terrible happened to Alice, and I needed to figure out what. I think that's when things got really crazy. Insane, even.

Well, answering my questions and filling in the blanks has been a big help so far. [ Jesse gives a small smirk for him. It's helped more than he would think. ] I'm pretty sure seeing your wife dragged under the water would cause an actions first thought later. I'm not sure anyone could blame you.

You were gone for a week, then the AWE started. Did you ever find out what happened in that week? I mean, between jumping into the Lake and waking up in the car.

Has it? It doesn't feel like it's doing much of anything, but hey, if you say so. [ He shrugs and offers a smirk in return. Maybe he's just too used to thinking nothing he does really helps. If she thinks he's helping, well, that's great. ]

I guess that's just the kind of guy I am: act first, think later. But how much good did that actually do? [ He shrugs again and rolls his shoulder idly. It doesn't seem like it's really done anything except setting in motion a story that's spinning out of control. ]

I've tried to find out. Tried to remember. But whatever happened during that week just seems to be gone. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it's probably somewhere in the middle.
