If he had to put aside his inclinations towards duty and following orders in the name of their relationship, he would do it for her if it was necessary. And he has already changed quite a bit, and not simply because he is now a voidsent. One more change surely would not cause harm.

But if she is determined that he not change himself for her, then there is no need to discuss it. Instead, he leans in even more, although they are already quite close, and he pulls her in close to him. It is quite clear that she is seeking comfort, and he is more than willing to give it. ]
