Haha. [Always fun to get a jump out of Yugi. But "other me," huh? A smile tugs at his lips as he thinks better of correcting him. If it's easier for Yugi, then it's okay to be called that. They were together like that much longer than Atem knowing his own name.

Yet a part of him... No, it's best to keep that buried deep.]

What's up? [The sneak attack had a purpose, and that purpose is to be nosy. He steps on the balls of his feet to get a good look over at Yugi's shoulder. It does nothing.] Are you writing a love letter to Anzu or something? About time. [His tone is light and teasing.]

[ Yugi pauses at the reaction he sees on Atem's face. Oh. His gaze drops to the desk in a mixture of apology and also self-scolding. He should know better now that the Pharaoh has his real name back. He doesn't need Yugi's name or memories anymore.

There's something bittersweet about that. ]

What?! -- No! [ His hands go to cover up what it is he is working on. Anzu is a complicated situation. What isn't in his life anymore? ] It's... something else. An idea.

[ One that will probably never happen. Still, dreams are nice to have. ]

[Too bad Atem won't talk about his identity issues and instead he continues to focus on what Yugi's hiding.]

An idea, huh... [About what? Atem can't see with Yugi's hands covering whatever it is and trying to stand taller failed thanks to their shared height. Squinting doesn't help either.

Which just makes Atem want to what it is know even more.

Maybe if he tries inching around and reaching his hand out ever so slowly he can yoink whatever it is under Yugi's grasp. It's worth a shot! And if it doesn't work, Atem has some other ideas up his proverbial sleeves.]

You should hurry up and confess to her before some American sweeps her off her feet. [His words are to distract from his actions. He'll get that paper yet.] What're you going to do then, partner?

[ And this is Yugi leaning over his top secret work to continue to hide it. His cheeks turn red for only a brief moment before he looks down. He doesn't doubt that someone is going to sweep Anzu off her feet. Yugi knows that she has eyes for the spirit of the Millennium Puzzle and most likely whatever she feels about him isn't what he feels for her. It's not like they can really keep anything going being at such a distance away from one another anyways... ]

Probably... just wish her the best if that's what happens.

[ He's the one that's still stuck in the past. Everyone else is moving on with their lives, Atem included. Yugi figures he will just need to figure it out. ]

[Not the answer Atem was looking for. He sighs through his nose and steps back to give Yugi some space. Keep your secrets now, but Atem will learn them yet. There's some confidence that needs restoring first.]

[ Can he really keep anything a secret from Atem for very long? Most likely not. Somethings always remain private, but, too much of themselves and their lives is simply shared by nature of Yugi being his vessel. Not that he minds in the slightest.

Instead, Yugi frowns slightly and looks properly up at Atem. There's a look of resignation on his face. At least, though, it is something he has come to on his own. ]

No, but, I have to be realistic about it. [ He shakes his head. ] There's a thirteen hour difference between us and New York City. Long distance relationships are hard as it is. I'm not sure anything could work with that much distance. We'd be living completely different lives, with different people in them...

[ Yugi looks down. Maybe it's obvious how much thought he's put into this. ]

We'll always be friends and be connected somehow. I just don't see how it would work -- or be fair to either of us.

[ Especially when he's sure it's really Atem that Anzu has eyes for - in that way anyways. That's fine. Yugi accepted that fact a long time ago. It stings still, but, who is he to try and tell her what one of them she should like? Especially once they learned Atem was his own person... and especially once his former other self got his memories back. ]

Don't you think that's rather presumptuous?

[As much as Atem wants to take Yugi by the shoulders to shake some sense into him, he isn't Jonouchi. That kind of approach won't work coming from him. No, he needs to be more cerebral, but still give Yugi the pieces to solve the puzzle himself.]

You've never told Anzu about your feelings. [Atem points at Yugi rather casually with his arms crossed.] Isn't that unfair to her? You can't guess how she feels. A person's feelings aren't a game.

[What does he know? He's dead. Atem knits his eyebrows, acknowledging what he's about to say may not go over well.]

You say you're realistic, but really I think you're being a coward.

... maybe.

[ The truth in the matter is, Yugi had already given up on the idea that telling Anzu his feelings would do any good. They're friends and that might just be enough. The idea of added distance just seems to cement it in his mind. Even if she didn't have the obvious attraction towards Atem? Life paths just seem to align in a way that would make a romantic relationship impossible.

Of course, he's achieved the impossible before. Though, he'd say that was more thanks to the soul he saw as his other self at one point.

He could point out how Atem has toyed with people's emotions in games... but that's a bit futile. There's no point in really arguing it when at some level the ancient soul is right. ]

Maybe I am a coward then.

[ Yugi frowns slightly. He can already tell that the comment won't go over well. The teen leans back in his chair, no longer hiding the papers that are under his arms. Duels and things that put his friends at risk is one thing. He can handle those.

Rejection from someone he cares about deeply, regardless of who it is? That's something else. ]
