[ Atem just nods slowly, remembering that moment and how he felt when the door finally opened. It wasn't the door to his memories, but it was the door that opened to all the adventures and misadventures that he and Yugi have happened since that time. ]

Actually, Yugi, you were the one who opened the door. The day you finished the Puzzle was the day the door opened and I was able to step outside for the first time in a long time.

[ He smiles then, an actual genuine smile, and with it, his tone of voice warms. ]

Maybe that other door will open again, and maybe it won't, but nothing can replace the time we've had together.

[ And then his expression sobers just a little as he ponders Yugi's next set of questions. ]

Well, it isn't as though I'm alone anymore, Yugi. [ Meaning that even if he did just continue wandering around the maze, it really isn't the worst fate he could have.

But then he poses a question to Yugi as well: ]

Do you ever mind having to take care of the Puzzle? [ And by extension, taking care of Atem himself. He knows that Yugi has insisted he doesn't, that his life was considerably emptier before they met, but he just needs to hear it confirmed again. ]
