The conversation ceases as she falls asleep and he follows, and when she leans against him, the slight frown on his face (most likely because the gash on his head still hurts even though it's been tended to) turns into a small smile even though he remains asleep for now. They probably don't have long to rest, and Alan will have to awaken soon, and when he does, the reality of the situation they're in will fall back onto him, but for right now, he's content: as content as it's possible to be.
A few more minutes pass and Alan stirs while still holding onto her hand. He shifts slightly as if he's beginning to awaken but his eyes stay closed for a few moments more. ]
