Eventually, it seems as though she's fallen asleep, and Samuels gives orders to everyone to rest while they can. Alan has no intention of leaving her, not even to rest, so he just positions himself next to her and holds her hand while waiting for her to wake up.
At some point while he's waiting, he dozes off himself and so he misses it when she begins to stir. But her movement causes him to shift slightly although he also doesn't rouse right away. ]
