[ ...Alan?

He hears her voice and he freezes in place for just a moment. It's her. It's really her, and his desperate play to find a way for them to see each other actually worked. Or did it not work at all and this is merely a dream? Or... could it be a dream in which they found each other in their minds? That's a weird thought but no weirder than anything else around him.

If it's a dream or if it's real, it doesn't actually matter. He can see her and she can see him, and that's been the goal all along. He notes the tears that leak from her eyes and he feels a stab of guilt knowing that he's responsible. It's his fault that she's upset; he left her behind and he didn't give her a choice in the matter. There was no way that she could follow him, not where he was going, but he knew when he did it that it hurt her.

It hurt him too, but he imagines it was way worse for her.

The backpack slips off the bed and hits the floor with a thud. He hears her feet shuffling along the floor as she moves over to the doorway, and he sees her hands lift as if she wants to touch him. She pauses before making contact with him, and he stills, not even daring to breathe.

She looks different somehow, as if years have passed. Have years passed? He's not even sure how long it's been. Maybe he'll ask her if the opportunity presents itself. ]

Hi, Jesse. It's- it's been awhile. Not really sure how long. [ He slowly lifts his arm and reaches out to touch her forearm, bridging the brief distance between them. ]
