The issue of his parentage does not consume all of his thoughts, and yet there is some small part of him that wants to earn the approval of his father... Both of his fathers, if he is being honest.
And as for her, well- If he allows himself to dream, he believes that he could see them together in the future, but he will not ask her to wait for him. Who knows how many battles there will be to fight? And who knows if he will return from all of them? Even if she were someone that he had known for countless years instead of a short handful of days, he still would not tie her down with an uncertain promise that he will return. ]

I must admit that I had rather selfishly hoped for more of your company tonight, so should you wish to accompany me, I will not turn you away. [ He hesitates for a moment before continuing, as he does not wish to trouble her further nor cause her to worry. ] I have yet to eat, as I have been otherwise occupied. [ For lack of a better word.
