[ In so many ways, Aymeric feels as though he is a servant to Ishgard. Not only because he serves as a Temple Knight, but because he feels he must pour all of his energy and efforts into preserving his homeland and the people who live there. There has already been enough devastation and destruction throughout the various places upon the star, and he does not wish to see Ishgard fall or come to ruin. He is aware that such a burden does not rest upon his shoulders alone, and yet there are times when he feels as though he is carrying that particular weight on his own.

His fellow Temple Knights, who he thinks of as his brothers, feel the same love of country and people as he does, and when they are together, they do what they can to share each other's burdens. After all, when they are sent to their next mission, who else do they have but each other?

Even so, the others that he fights alongside do not have the background that Aymeric does. They are not the illegitimate son of the Archbishop, and in his mind, they do not have so much that they need to prove. So in that respect, Alkaid's thoughts do not stray too far from the mark. ]

Of course, you are right. It is hardly reasonable to strive to be everywhere and take on every task, and yet something inside me tells me I must make every effort. [ He huffs out a quiet laugh and shakes his head once. ] 'tis foolishness, I am sure, but I cannot rid myself of those thoughts.

There is much to be done and the need of the people is great, but even as a Temple Knight, I fear there is very little I can contribute save to go to war and fight for Ishgard. And lest you come to the wrong conclusion, I believe- I know there are others who desire the same future as I. They would see the Brume and other areas like it cared for.

But wishing for something and taking the necessary steps to see it come to fruition are two very different things.

[ He feels, not for the first time, the weight of what he sees as the responsibility he has to his people and his home begin to fall upon him once more. But for the moment, there truly is not much he can do. Perhaps on his next return home after being at the front, he can take a more active role in things within the city.

But his thoughts have wandered far enough and he is quick to focus upon her once more. ]

I imagine what I have to tell you will not take long at all. I would not keep you longer than I must, as I am certain you have things you wish to do this evening.

[ Oh, if only he had happier news to give her. And if only he did not have to part from her so soon. Time seems to be moving at a fast pace against his will, and soon enough, his steps will lead him to the front lines once more.

The feel of her cheek against his arm warms him and encourages him, and a small smile crosses his face. If only he could stay like this forever, but as he cannot, he is doing his best to commit every moment of their time together to memory so that when he is far from her, he can think back to this and remember. ]

Would you rather walk as we talk, or shall we find a place to sit for a moment?
