[ In his mind, there is no possibility at all of him rejecting her. He loves her and wishes to be married to her one day, and until that time, he is resolved to remain by her side as long as she allows him to.

Although he has never loved anyone as much as he loves her, nor has he wished to be married before he met her, he knows that when trials come, that is not the time to run. Even when things are difficult, perhaps even seemingly insurmountable, that is the time to stay together, to hold onto each other, and that is what he means to do.

He knows that the maid and possibly the steward as well will arrive presently, but he knows they have enough discretion to know when to linger and when to take their leave. He values their presence, of course, but now, Alkaid requires his full attention.

When she moves herself to rest in his lap, head coming to rest against his chest, he smiles at her. It is a worried sort of smile, but there is happiness there too: happiness that she has returned when he feared that she might never come back. And regardless of what struggles she is facing, he intends to stand beside her so that they might work through them together. ]

It is good to be home. [ And then his smile widens and he lowers his head so that he might brush a light kiss against her forehead. She is his home, and having her with him once more means the world to him.

But now that she is here and resting in bed, he has but one question for her. ]

Is it all right if I remove your hood? [ He means to inquire if she would like for him to remove her cloak as well, but he intends to move slowly so as not to burden her more than she already seems to be. ]
