Emperor Xande had become warped by his revival and thus set on a path for a bloody war with the lands south of the sea of Eorzea. Meracydia. As the war continued they turned the art of summoning and brought forth powerful primals to stave off the Empire. Ones, which I am certain you are familiar with. The Warring Triad--of course--and Bahamut.
Azys Lla was created to house the Triad and, if memory serves, was the foundational blueprint of what would encase Bahamut. The Red Moon of Dalamud.
