[ The afterlife is everything that Atem thought it would be: he's reunited with his loyal friends and his father as well, and others who have gone on before. But there's some very important things, or rather people, missing. Of course they have lives to live, so he wouldn't wish to see them in the afterlife, at least not yet, but that doesn't stop him from missing his partner Yugi and the girl who became closer to him than anyone except for Yugi, Lunafreya.
The day to day affairs go by more or less the same every day, and it isn't even that he considers himself discontent. In a way, he's more content and more complete than he's been in far too long. But if only he could see Yugi and Lunafreya again, then he'd consider himself entirely complete once more. There was that occurrence not long ago when he'd somehow been returned to a younger age and met Lunafreya in the Field of Reeds, and he still replays that moment in his mind even now. Having to part ways with her a second time wasn't any easier than the first had been, and yet he still can't help but miss her.
Still, as he's already reasoned and as he's been told by his friends and advisors more than once, he shouldn't wish to see them here.
So he does his best to fill up his days and his time with various tasks and responsibilities, and for the most part, the days fall into a pattern. That is, until one day, he's standing on one of the palace balconies and he spots something strange: an eagle.
It isn't the bird itself that's strange, because he knows there are nests of them around, but rather the fact that he hasn't seen one quite like it before now, and so close to the palace too. He turns to Mahado, who happens to be standing nearby. ]
Have you seen anything like that around here before? [ Of course, there's wildlife of all kinds, but he can't recall seeing an eagle flying by recently. ]
